John Nickerson, Owner & Principal Consultant

Mr. Nickerson has more than 25 years of experience in the industrial safety and fire protection fields. This experience has been in both public emergency services and 20+ years in the nuclear fire protection and industrial safety fields serving in such positions as Department Manager, Industrial Safety Manager, Fire Chief, Training Coordinator, Project Lead, Fire Marshal and Senior Instructor Fire Protection.
Experienced in Industrial Safety and Fire Protection Programs, Fire Prevention Programs, Fire Department Management, Hazard Evaluation, Life Safety Code compliance, Fire Protection System evaluation, acceptance testing and code compliance.

Established and managed a 40+ member Nuclear Power Plant dedicated fire protection/emergency response organization.

Served as the Fire Chief of an 80 man volunteer fire department that consisted of 3 Fire stations and 15 pieces of Apparatus. Coordinated an Insurance Services Organization reevaluation of the community that resulted in a reclassification of the town and resulted in an insurance rate reduction for the town’s property owners. Also managed the merger of two volunteer fire departments into a single unit. Eliminating duplication of equipment, facilities and administration budgets.

  • Jim Healey, Regional Manager

    Jim has been a member of the JLN team for close to 10 years. He has been involved in numerous Municipal Fire Risk Assessments, Fire System Industrial Design Reviews, Power Plant Outage Safety Support, Fire Extinguisher, Hazmat, Confined Space, and OSHA Compliance Training, Safety Procedure Writing and Code Compliance Reviews. As a degreed Fire Protection Engineer, Jim has specialized in regulatory compliance in the environmental, nuclear and conventional power generation, and industrial safety field for 19 years.

    After serving in the United States Navy, Submarine service as a Second Class Machinist Mate, Jim joined the General Dynamic, Electric Boat Division as a Ship’s Test Mechanic. Jim has achieved the rank of Deputy Fire Chief in the Old Lyme Fire Department and was appointed as the department’s Safety Officer.

    He has a B.S. in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of New Haven and is certified by the National Safety Council as a Certified Utility Safety Associate (CUSA), State of Connecticut Fire Instructor, and is a part of the OSHA 500 Outreach Program, Trainer for Construction Industry.

    Stephen Bergel, Project Manager

    Stephen Bergel has been a Project Manager since 2008 for JLN Associates, LLC. Prior to taking a role in management, Bergel was a Fire and Safety Coordinator with extensive experience in both municipal and professional emergency environments. Bergel has been actively involved in the Fire and Safety field for 16 years, beginning his career for General Dynamics as a Professional Industrial Firefighter; building a fundamentally strong work ethic and immersing himself in NFPA, OSHA, and ANSI Standards. Later in his career, Bergel was easily adapted into a role as a Fire and Safety Coordinator for such industry giants as: Dynegy, NAES, Sanofi Pasteur, NRG and the BG Corporation.

    Bergel is highly effective at identifying problematic issues, coaching, and implementing solutions. He is highly effective in adhering to, and enforcing codes and regulations in field applications and building professional team environments and tasking team members for maximum efficiency. Bergel has effectively and fairly lead teams in the field, and can quickly adapt to constantly changing work environments. He understands the needs of the workers and contractors and effectively communicates them to management.

    Bergel has time and time again seamlessly translated corporate needs and management's orders to work forces for maximum efficiency and potential to help build strong working relationships among staff by bridging gaps and breaking down walls between parties for the purpose of working toward common goals addressing the companies' needs.

    Steven Galbo, Project Manager

    Steven Galbo has been working for JLN Associates, LLC since 2009. Prior to taking a role in management, Steven was a Sr. Fire and Safety Specialist.

    Steven has been actively involved in the Industrial Fire and Safety field for 16 years. He holds many certifications from OSHA as well as FEMA and the State of Connecticut. Steven began his career at Dominion Nuclear Power Station as a Professional Industrial Firefighter and progressed to fill positions such as Fire Brigade Captain, Fire Simulator Operator, Safety Associate, Work Control, Nuclear Planner/ Scheduler, Purchaser, Corrective Action Investigator, Root Cause Investigator, Procedural reviewer, and Plant Equipment Operator Assistant, all of these positions have helped to form a well rounded background.

    Steven has provided Safety oversight on numerous Industrial power station outages including but not limited to Nuclear, Combined Cycle and Simple Cycle. Steven has also provided oversight for new Power Station Construction as well as large-scale Demolition Projects. His ability to speak to all levels of the organization enables him to establish an instant rapport with the client.

    Jim Kuzmak, Project Manager

    Jim Kuzmak has been a Project Manager since 2010 for JLN Associates, LLC. Prior to taking a role in management, Kuzmak was a Sales Manager for Fire and Safety Equipment company specializing in Fire Extinguisher sales and service. Kuzmak has been actively involved in the Fire and Safety field for 16 years, beginning his career for as a volunteer firefighter/EMT for W M Walker Hose Co. in Mayfield, Pa. Since then, Jim has become an accredited Pennsylvania State Fire Suppression level Instructor. Jim is also nationally certified to Firefighter II, Instructor II, HazMat Operations, NFPA 1006 Rescue General Requirements, Confined Space, Trench and Vehicle Rescue as well Fire Inspector I. Kuzmak has also worked as firefighter/EMT for the Borough of Dunmore and is a fire instructor for Bucks County Community College.

    Currently, Kuzmak is assigned to the Sanofi Pasteur, Swiftwater, PA site and currently manages 7 life safety technicians as well as maintains accountability for over 1300 fire extinguisher, 300 Emergency lights and exit signs and over 300 Safety Shower/ Eyewashes.
